Hey, all, it's Drew...I'm going to try my hand at this...
Well, it's been a whirlwind of a day! I woke up at 4:45 this morning to Jill saying 6 words that will really get you moving..."I think my water just broke." I don't think I've ever thrown the covers off that fast.
We got up to the hospital by 5:30 and were in the room by 6. Since Dr. Morton, our regular doctor, was out of town, we were treated by Dr. Yancy, who performed Grayson's circumcision. We were both very impressed...he was very straightforward about the risks of leaving the babies in as well as the risks of delivering early. As he put it, whatever damage that would be done by delivering early is much more easily fixed than the damage that would be caused if Jill's old C-section scar ruptured during prolonged contractions.
Anyway, from there it moved pretty quickly, and by 8:30, we were into surgery, and the twins were born.
Elizabeth Grace Corbitt was 5 lbs 2 oz, 18 inches long, and was born at 9:09 am.
Olivia Faith Corbitt was 5 lbs 10 oz, 18 1/2 inches long, and was born at 9:10 am.
Here are some pics of them in Longview Regional.
A bit of perspective on their distance from each other. Elizabeth is on the left and Olivia's on the right.
Me with Elizabeth (top) and Olivia (bottom). [Sidenote: I'm already finding myself worrying if I'm showing one more favoritism than the other. In this case, I'm just putting Elizabeth first because she's older.]
Obviously, they've inherited the "Williams' toe".
We had quite a different experience with the twins than we did with Grayson. Since they were so early, they had premature lungs, and had quite a bit of difficulty breathing. In fact, little Olivia took a bit of a dip around noon. This caused the Drs. to make the decision that they would need to be moved to a location that was better suited to handle their situation. Obviously, we preferred Good Shepherd, since it's right in Longview, but unfortunately, there weren't any beds ("No room for them in the inn", as Doctor Hudson said), and ultimately, we wanted what was best for the babies.
Both of the doctors agreed that Sutton Children's Hospital in Christus Schumpert in Shreveport was our best option. Unfortunately, Jill hasn't been released yet, so my dad and I are staying the night here. As of about 9:30 tonight, both of the babies are doing great. They are still on the ventilator, but they're both only on 21% oxygen, which is apparently what "room" air is. The ventilator is just giving them "pressure" to help them breathe.
Here is the little pod that they were transported in.
Olivia with her eyes cracked open. The nurse said that at one point during the shift change they both had their eyes open and were looking all over the place.
Here is a bit of a comparison of Elizabeth (top) and Olivia (bottom). You can see how much darker Elizabeth's hair is than Olivia's.
Again, Elizabeth on top and Olivia on bottom.
OH! One more thing...we asked about whether they are identical...they have different blood types...one is O- and one is O+, thought I honestly don't remember which is which...I've already mixed them up once today. :)
You can check out all of our pics on our Flickr site.
I think I've hit everything, but, I'll be honest, it's been a pretty exhausting day, and I feel like I'm just rambling at this point, so I'll try to wrap this up and post again tomorrow.
A big thanks to Melissa, Mindi and Amy for taking care of Grayson today...I'm sure he had a blast. Also, big thanks to ALL the prayer warriors out there...they were absolutely felt. Clay, both Michaels, Rodney, Bryan, Jordan, Skye, Adam, Maggie, Kris, Darla, Amy, Rand, David, Scott, Travis, Brenda, Ricky...just to name the ones that I texted or that texted me...you are all loved deeply.
I'll wrap it up with the verse that's been on my heart all day long...
For you created my inmost being;
you knit me together in my mother's womb.
I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
your works are wonderful,
I know that full well.
My frame was not hidden from you
when I was made in the secret place.
When I was woven together in the depths of the earth,
Your eyes saw my unformed body.
All the days ordained for me
were written in your book
before one of them came to be.
Psalm 139 : 13-16
Please continue to keep us in your prayers.
Grace and Peace!
